Denied claims

Help after a denied VA claim

A denied claim is not the end of the process. You may still have options to appeal, to add new evidence, or to refile, and we help you understand them.

The VA denies many claims that could have been approved with stronger evidence or a clearer connection to service. A denial does not always mean a claim was invalid. Often it means something in the evidence, the documentation or the connection to service was not clearly established.

Who this is for

For Veterans who were told no

This support is for you if the VA denied your claim, or denied part of it, and you want to understand why and what you can do next.

A decision letter can be hard to read, and it is easy to lose time wondering whether it is worth trying again. We help you read what the decision actually says and what it may point to.

  • Your claim was denied, or one of your conditions was denied
  • You were denied more than once and are not sure what to change
  • The decision says your condition was not connected to your service
  • A required exam was missed, delayed or felt incomplete
  • You want to understand your options before a deadline passes

What we help with

What we help you understand after a denial

We help you understand what may have been missing and what could support a stronger position.

Why it was denied

Most denials come down to evidence, documentation or the connection to service.

The evidence may not have clearly connected your condition to your service, a required exam may have been missed or incomplete, or your records may not have shown the full severity of your condition.

Higher-Level Review

A senior reviewer looks again at the evidence already in your file.

No new evidence is submitted at this stage (VA Form 20-0996). It can fit when you believe the decision was wrong on the evidence the VA already had.

Supplemental Claim

You submit new and relevant evidence for the VA to consider.

This route (VA Form 20-0995) fits when something that could change the outcome was missing, such as records, an evaluation or nexus-related documentation.

Board Appeal

Your case goes to the Board of Veterans' Appeals for a formal review.

A Board Appeal (VA Form 10182) can be decided on the existing record, with new evidence, or with a hearing. We help you understand what each option involves.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What if my VA claim was denied?

You may still have options. A denial often means something was missing or unclear, not that your claim had no merit.

We help you understand what may have been missing and which route, a Higher-Level Review, a Supplemental Claim or a Board Appeal, may fit your situation.

Is there a deadline after a denial?

Yes, timing matters. For a Higher-Level Review or a Board Appeal, the VA generally asks you to file within one year of the date on your decision letter.

Check the dates in your own decision letter, and reach out early so there is time to understand your options.

Can I add new evidence after a denial?

Yes, through a Supplemental Claim. That route is for new and relevant evidence the VA did not consider before.

A Higher-Level Review does not accept new evidence, so it helps to understand the difference first.

Do you guarantee a rating or approval?

No. We do not guarantee a rating, a claim approval or any particular outcome.

The VA makes every decision on your claim. What we do is help you understand what your claim may need, what can be strengthened and what your next step could look like.

Can Love4Vets file my VA claim for me?

No. We do not file claims on your behalf.

Love4Vets provides VA claim coaching and support. We help you understand your claim situation, your evidence and your possible next steps. When legal representation is needed, we point you toward a VA-accredited claims agent, attorney or Veterans Service Organization, who may offer their services for free.
